Thank you to many who are praying. The last 5 days have seen meetings in Bombay, Calcutta and now in Gangtok in Sikkim (the state next to Tibet under Chinese rule). Do pray for Jyoti Chakravartty also who has some health issue with diabetes. His burden has been to strategically set up creation groups with an affiliation to CSAI (Creation Science Association of India) and with other Creationist friends from abroad.
The meetings in Bombay were run with DrsMathew and his wife Vinita who are both practising doctors and the first one on last Sunday 21st saw a good 300 or so there many of whom were not believers, A further meeting to pastors took place on the Monday 22nd on the theology of Creation and why it is so important to the Gospel itself. This meeting saw the pastors really seeing that no death before the Fall is foundational. Tuesday 23rd in Calcutta was on ‘Creation or Evolution – looking at the evidence’. Jyoti had expected 40 – in the end 90 booked and about 120 were there on the night with discussions going on for a long time after, with believers seeing the need to stand firm on Genesis.
We flew yesterday Weds 24th to Bagdoran in the North of West Bengal and then the long drive up in a 4X4 into the foothills of the Himalayas along a road only built in the 1980s – into Sikkim and Gangtok near the border with Tibet / China. Bumpy as the road is, Hillary and Hunt had no road like this to get to meeting Tenzing at the foothills of Everest! Neither did the pioneer Scottish missionaries have it when they evangelised this area 70-80 years ago…..
It was worth it – we had a meeting today Thurs 25th with keen pastors and young people including Rev Tingbo (the moderator of the Sikkim region of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church) who last time 2 years ago said publicly that he now realised that one could not simply use 2 Peter 3:8 in Genesis to argue that a day is a 1000 years. Many bought books from Jyoti’s book ministry, and it has been so good to see Christians in particular seeing the importance of the issue. India may not yet be like the UK / US in the infiltration of evolution into the education system, but they definitely are going in the same direction.
